Meet Tammy Nguyen of Bamboo nails and spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Nguyen.

Hi Tammy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t grow up dreaming of one day owning a nail salon — I studied finance at the University of Oklahoma and worked at Chase Bank as a personal banker, followed by a position as branch manager at IBC Bank. As you know, these roles offer a decent income; however, deep down, I always felt that I was destined to create something of my own. I have always been drawn to beauty — not just in its aesthetic form, but in how it makes people feel. There is something incredibly powerful about the small details that can help someone feel beautiful and confident, the sensation of being noticed and cared for, which always translates into special experiences. Nail care and hairstyling became more than just services for me; they became a silent passion in my heart. The creativity, the precision, the conversations about the latest beauty trends shared between two people in a chair… it was all just wonderful.
In those early days, it was just me. I worked seven days a week, ten hours a day, striving to save every penny I could. I was exhausted — my body ached, and my mind was constantly spinning — yet my dream never abandoned me. Each night, I would close my eyes and envision my future nail salon. I imagined not only what it would look like but also the exceptional experiences it would provide for each of my clients. All of these aspirations served as the motivation that kept me moving forward.
Opening my first nail salon was one of the most challenging moments of my life. I poured everything I had into it — every dollar, every ounce of energy, every piece of my heart. I hoped for success but also feared failure, terrified of losing everything and being left with nothing. However, in the end, I chose to take the plunge.
Now, as I step into my nail salon and hear the laughter, feel the positive energy, and see the amazing team surrounding me — I pause. I take a deep breath. Because I remember those early days: the long hours, the tired hands, the silent tears, the moments when I nearly gave up. And I am so grateful that I persevered.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly not been a smooth journey — and honestly, I don’t believe that such a path ever occurs when you’re building something from the ground up. There were days when I questioned everything. Financial pressures, stressful work situations, and the heavy burden of fear of failure weighed down on me, especially in the early days. I recall a time when I was always the first to arrive at the salon and the last to leave after closing, silently sweeping the floors, wondering if I was doing enough and if it was all worth it. There were moments when I had to choose between paying the rent for the salon or paying myself. Additionally, being a woman in business within this industry came with its own silent struggles in my personal life.
Yet, each time I faced adversity, I remembered why I started: my passion for nail art and creativity. I longed to create a space that not only catered to nail care and beauty but also provided outstanding and upscale experiences — an art form at the tips of every finger. Ultimately, all these challenges taught me resilience, allowing me to develop a broader vision, to recognize and seize opportunities when they arose, and to identify the right moments to tap into the market or open new avenues within the nail industry. More importantly, these experiences instilled in me a profound sense of empathy. I carry these lessons with me every day.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
In any business, achieving success as an owner is no small feat, and mastering the nail salon industry presents its own unique challenges.
First and foremost, it is essential to define what constitutes a successful business. The criteria you set can distinguish you from other nail salons. While some may argue that success is measured by maximizing profits, my focus lies elsewhere. I am more concerned with the quality of service I provide and the impact my dedication has on my clients and the community.
Moreover, my profound love and passion for nail art inspire me to continually stay updated on the latest trends, ensuring that I uphold high standards of technique. I am committed to using only the finest and safest nail products. Additionally, the implementation of a thorough deep cleaning process at the end of each day remains a top priority for our salon. It is this unwavering commitment to excellence and care that truly defines our success in the nail industry.
